Formally announced at the Xbox E3 show in 2019, Gears of War 5, also known as simply Gears 5, is the next installment in Microsoft's popular and acclaimed Gears franchise, following up on the heels of Gears of War 4, released originally in October 2016. Following the franchise's format as a third person shooter, Gears of War 5 allows the player to traverse an expansive and crumbling world as player character Kait to uncover the origins of and truth behind the Locust, along with her squad.
